Samsung showcases a 7.6-inch foldable OLED screen with wider viewing angles

Samsung Display, the world leader in OLED technology, has showcased new OLED panels for a variety of devices. One standout is a brand-new 7.6-inch OLED panel with wider viewing angles for foldable smartphones. This mitigates the brightness reduction issue often found on the curved edges of older panels.

During the ongoing International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) 2026 expo, held from August 18 to 21 at BEXCO in Busan, South Korea, Samsung Display showcased its 7.6-inch Wide View Display. It uses new technology to improve viewing angles, effectively solving the brightness degradation issue at the folding area of the screen.

The panel utilizes completely redesigned materials and a new organic light-emitting material structure to enhance both brightness and viewing angles. It isn't clear whether Samsung will use this panel in the Galaxy Z Fold 9 next year, but we wouldn't be surprised if it does.

A Samsung Display official said, “The Wide View Display is the latest wide viewing angle technology capable of resolving the issue of side brightness degradation in the folding parts of foldable smartphones or the curved edges of edge displays. Applying this technology allows for the realization of uniform image quality without brightness differences based on viewing angle in next-generation form factor products such as foldable, slidable, and rollable displays.

The company also showcased a 20-inch Wide Stretchable Display during the expo. It is the world's largest stretchable display, designed by connecting two existing stretchable OLED panels using tiling technology. The company utilized ultra-precision panel design and module lamination technologies to achieve this.

The new stretchable OLED panel can be used in applications that have curved surfaces, such as digital cockpits in vehicles, digital signage, and humanoid robots.
